Music in Ben’s life began with drumming at age ten and by age sixteen he was pursuing the career of a session drummer. During sixth form, Ben found himself creating music in all his free time, both at school and at home. Following a chance comment by a sixth form colleague that Ben should listen to film soundtracks, it was like the last piece of the puzzle had fallen into place. With a vivid imagination and a huge passion for films, it soon occurred to him that he had a burning desire to write interpretive music for the film industry. As his creativity found its purpose, the piano at home, largely left untouched by Ben, became like a magnet to him.
After his arrival at Leeds College of Music in which he majored in production, Ben quickly emerged as a single-minded and focused student, immersing all his energies and commitment into learning his trade. Quite soon he was beginning to become recognized as one of the most promising and aspiring film composers in the college. His work started to appear as the lead in gala and evening events like ‘Film Night’, where the conservatoire showcase their most promising composers.
Now, fresh out of university at age 21, after securing a prize for outstanding academic achievement at Leeds college of music, Ben is already proving himself to be a prolific composer. He has now written music for seven short films, a full length feature film from Switzerland and two short advertisement works, with two new film projects currently underway. In addition to this, his rapidly growing fan-base within the Soundcloud community is satiated with regular uploads of new tracks in varying genres and styles; adding to a personal library of over 100 pieces.

I Am Cello
Cellist Deryn Cullen and composer Dan Cullen have just released I Am Cello; a captivating, dynamic experience that is from start to finish an epic journey that needs to be repeated.
-Sae Ely, Collective Soundwaves, October 5, 2016
“For my heart is a furnace
And my music is fire
I AM CELLO”
With a decade of Film, TV and Game composition behind them, the Cullens have forged a unique and exhilarating sound, defined by Dan’s bold, expressive and epic compositional style and Deryn’s rich, virtuosic cello playing. Deryn creates extraordinary textures by taking on the role of an entire string section, recording all violin, viola, cello and bass parts on various coveted celli in her broad collection. The result is at once a familar, yet exotic and truly one-of-a-kind sonic experience. I AM CELLO draws from the troubled times engulfing us, painting a musical world of light and dark, weeping over that which divides us and celebrating that which unites us. It is a master work quite unlike any other.
Deryn’s exquisite cello ensembles give Dan’s dramatic orchestration the life and dynamics it deserves; a magnificent live choir recorded in LA accentuates the epic emotion; and Emmy award-winning Epic Music producer Yoav Goren’s creative direction and lush three-dimensional mixes elevate each track to astonishing heights. The result is a musical experience that will evoke passion, tears and joy – sometimes all at once – and will have you reaching for the repeat button.
